It reads: “70 kilometres from the Porte Maillot — one of the quietest and prettiest corners of the Seine valley”, “American-Bar”, “English spoken”, together with a road map from Paris. The heading carries “W. EVANS ‘dit BILLY’ — HOTEL BAUDY — Restaurant — Cuisine soignée — Prix modérés — Giverny (Eure) près Vernon”, with “Téléph. : 9 Giverny” and “R. C. 1318 B Andelys”. Three vignettes show the terrace, the tennis court and the park. One mention places it in time: “R. C. 1318 B Andelys” refers to the trade register in use from 1920 to 1 March 1954, the letter B denoting a company rather than a sole trader. The Citroën coach service announced from the Porte Maillot places the document between the wars. It names an operator, W. Evans.
