The hotel garden

Old postcard captioned “GIVERNY. - Jardin de l’Hôtel Baudy”, stamped, postmarked, and covered with handwriting across the picture side.

Postcard titled “GIVERNY. — Jardin de l’Hôtel Baudy”, published by A. L. of Vernon. A lawn laid out in beds, a staircase rising towards the trees. The back carries a handwritten message and a franked stamp. The message is written across the picture side: in France the back of a postcard was reserved for the address alone until 1903–1904, which places its posting before that reform.

On the estate

The garden and its studio

The lawn laid out in beds, the paths, tables set under the trees — and, away from the house, the wooden pavilion built in 1887: the studio, with its north-facing skylight, the only one that survives today.
