Biography
An American painter and member of the Giverny colony, Richard Edward Miller most often depicted elegant women reading or walking in flowering gardens. His highly refined palette at times anticipates Post-Impressionism.
Giverny
He stayed in Giverny from 1906, teaching summer classes to American women students. In 1907 he married Harriet Adams, whom he had met among his pupils. He left the village in 1912 after a dispute with his landlord. His Giverny painting combines the female figure with the bright interior and the garden.
