Biography
An American painter, Frederick Carl Frieseke is one of the best-known members of the Giverny colony. Settling lastingly in the village, he developed a highly personal world: women in gardens, light filtering through foliage, brilliant colour, intimate scenes.
Giverny
He spent the summers of 1906 to 1919 in Giverny, in a house next to Monet’s property, painting almost exclusively female figures out of doors, in the garden and under light filtered through foliage. He claimed Renoir rather than Monet as his model. In 1910 he was among the painters shown under the “Giverny Group” label.
Relation with the Hôtel Baudy
His Giverny summers are documented by American public collections. He lived in his own house, next to Monet’s property, and nothing connects him to the Hôtel Baudy.
