Biography

The son of the painter Daniel Ridgway Knight, he was first taught by his father, then by Tony Robert-Fleury and Jules Lefebvre. He exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1894 and was awarded medals in 1901, 1905 and 1906. Made an officer of the Légion d’honneur in 1927, he was admired for his rendering of transparency, reflections and moving water.

Giverny

He had his house at Beaumont-le-Roger in the Eure and found his favourite subjects there: the cottages and gardens of the surrounding villages, whose names recur in his titles. No source connects him to Giverny. Not to be confused with his father, whose territory was Rolleboise.
