Theodore Robinson — The Layette

Oil on canvas, signed at lower right: a young woman seated on a rush chair, at the foot of a tree and against a stone wall, sewing a piece of white linen. The collection holds the photograph Robinson took to compose this painting: the pose, the chair, the wall and the cloth are already there, point for point. Together the two pieces show how he worked.
